Discussing Jihad in the USA

I don’t know about you but I prefer Imam Anwar al-Awlaki’s view to Yasir Qadhi’s.

It seems this post has gained attention. Perhaps a clarification is in order. My views on jihad are well-known. I believe in non-violent work for political change and call for that openly.

Terror attacks, such as 9/11 and 7/7, are haraam (forbidden) in Islam. This is obvious. They are also politically the worst move possible since this is a battle for hearts and minds and it requires public discussion and debate to generate change. I therefore disagree with the call for violence for political ends or change (and it is a shame that the American and British Governments don’t do the same when it suits them). This post is based on my disagreement with both Imam Anwar al-Awlaki and Yasir Qadhi on this issue. When there are two people with whom I disagree on this issue of change I would never back down from saying what I think, in particular that Yasir Qadhi was a sell-out Uncle Tom. He’s taken sides against the believers. Quote me on that.

With Imam Anwar al-Awlaki I disagree with the strategy, I disagree with the tactics, I disagree with the violence but I tell you that a sincere Muslim making a mistake in strategy or tactics (such as violence for change) is preferable to a sneaky, sell-out like Yasir Qadhi.

By the way, the attention was prior to a debate on Proof of Creator. The video is on YouTube. Judge for yourself how it went.

About:

A blog for my thinking and perspective on events from an Islamic Angle. It's all quick thoughts, original content, sharp reminders or links to really interesting stuff.

It's how I view the world from East London. Sometimes I post on a topical issue that can be seen from many angles when only one will really do. Comments welcome!
