Record numbers of children removed from parents

The number of children taken into care in England has hit a record high. The figure could reach 10,000 this year.

Sometimes it is justified and other times not but why so many?

What’s wrong with so many parents and families in England? Why the sudden and dramatic increase in the numbers of children being taken into care? Applications to put more children in care had jumped by 36% between 2008/09 and 2009/10.

Why does a state that promotes freedom remove so many children from their parents? Why does it think it knows better, like a nanny state? Where do we draw the line between what the state, society and the individual think is correct or harmful? Can human beings ever decide these lines without causing themselves problems (like losing their children)? Could there be an inherent contradiction somewhere?
